Ty Wishart Recalled, Rhett Rakhshani Loaned to Bridgeport

Announcement came today in the mid afternoon that the New York Islanders had officially called up defenseman Ty Wishart, and had sent forward Rhett Rakhshani back down to Bridgeport to make space for the Wishart call up.

Wishart has been as good as one could hope the Sound Tigers so far, with 4 goals and 15 points while holding a -5 rating in 48 games. Wishart had also shown pretty good skill during his time up with the Islanders last season when he had 1 goal and 5 points with a +5 rating in 20 games, after being acquired from Tampa Bay in exchange for, goaltender, Dwayne Roloson on a trade on January 1st.

During his 5 games up this season, Rakhshani hasn’t necessarily impressed but has definitely shown capability at playing at this level. Although not registering any points during his 5 game stunt, he certainly showed that he shouldn’t be underestimated in any way due to his small stature as he will outwork anybody who makes that mistake. He skates hard, and makes the most of his opportunities, and one figured that it was only a matter of time before he started cashing in on those opportunities.

I’m not a big fan of this transaction as I figure that Rakhshani is a better fit on the third line with Bailey then Rolston will ever be, however a change in defense needed to be made and Rakhshani was the only player the Islanders could realistically sacrifice in order for that change to take place.

Look for Wishart to make his season debut either tomorrow night in Winnipeg, or Thursday night in St. Louis.

On a side note, happy 27th birthday to goaltender Al Montoya. Look for him to get the nod tomorrow night in the game against the Winnipeg Jets.

Please feel free to add any comments, I will try my best to respond to them as soon as I can.
